Three Art History Majors were inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, April 9, 2007:

The faculty in parentheses received recognition for excellent teaching by the named students.


Victoria Haverly (Fall '07, double major with Business) did research for the guide to the Balser Art Collection at the Goizueta Business School (Spring 2006).

Jessica Kreps received Highest HONORS for her Thesis: “Two Palms Press: Transforming the Contemporary Fine Arts Print”, for Prof. Sarah McPhee and James Meyer), 2006-2007; she received a SIRE grant to support her HONORS project, 2006-2007; and she worked at the High Museum for the Museum Interpretation Department on the Louvre Atlanta Exhibition, Summer 2006.

Martin McDermott (joint major with Visual Arts) received Highest HONORS for his Thesis: “The Worst of Sinners: The Life and Biblical Art of Rembrandt,” for Prof. Walter Melion and Project: “Creation as Meditation: Visions of Faith in Clay,” for Diane Kempler; was recipient of a STIPE artist’s grant, Spring 2007.

Shaina Norvell-Cold (double major with Psychology) received HONORS for her Thesis: “An Art Historical Analysis: The Coffin of Baket” for Prof. Gay Robins, Spring 2007; and she was an intern in the Michael C. Carlos Conservation lab.

Ferin Rajpari-Hussain interned at Mason Murer Fine Art Gallery and Wertz Contemporary in Atlanta (Summer 2006).

Alexandra Roman received High HONORS for her Thesis: “The Art of Dance: Visual Artists as Theatrical Designers,” for Profs. Eddie Chambers/Elizabeth Pastan and Project for Katherine Mitchell/Leslie Taylor, Dance, 2006-07; Received an artist grant from STIPE Society.

Alexia Rostow received High HONORS for her Thesis: “The Nuremberg Chronicle as Salvation History: The Meditative Function of the Images within the Nuremberg Chronicle,” for Prof. Walter Melion, Spring 2007; presented a condensed version of her thesis at the Agnes Scott Art Symposium, Fall 2006/Spring 2007; and organized and taught a Wood Engraving Workshop at Emory.

Shari Kashani received HONORS for her Thesis: “The Making of the Modern Tourist: The British and Eighteenth-Century Rome ”, for Prof. Elizabeth Liebman (Art History) and Prof. Sharon Strocchia (History); presented a paper at the Agnes Scott Arts Symposium and the Georgia Undergraduate Art History Forum at the University of West Georgia (spring, 2007); interned at the High Museum (spring, 2007)--she wrote much of the text for the kiosk and the panel's labels for the Ghiberti exhibit and co- authored the Masterpiece of the Month lecture on a bust of Marie Antoinette; received both a STIPE grant and a CUTTINO grant (History) for travel to London and Rome, to visit archives in both cities to conduct research on her Honors thesis in “Art History on the Grand Tour” (summer, 2006).
